PREVENTION

oral hygiene

The primary focus of the tasks carried out by the dental hygienists at Van de Veer dental practices is the prevention of caries (cavities in teeth and molars) and gum disorders. Furthermore our dental hygienists also perform curative tasks (= aimed at recovery), such as treating gum disorders.

our oral hygiene treatments include:

  • carrying out oral examinations and if necessary taking X-rays and/or making dental impressions
  • extensive education regarding the development of caries, gum disorders and the effect of dietary habits on the teeth
  • extensive education regarding dental care
  • carrying out full dental cleanings, at which plaque, tartar and deposits are removed
  • carrying out preventive treatments, including the application of protective tooth coatings (such as fluoride)
  • applying a layer of 'lacquer' to teeth and/or molars (that have just erupted); this is known as sealing
  • polishing fillings
